I miss the Noise

I love it in England
That its quiet
When I've to study at the library
And bustles with life
When I'm shopping at the city centre

Today I'm missing a Noise
A sound that is music to my ears,
That which is home.

Everybody is celebrating my brother's engagement in India and I made lunch for few close friends as a treat, at the dorm. A bit of chit chat and we parted

Back to the silence of my room now...
And all I want to be is part of the noise..
Of a little baby crying, girl cousins giggling,
men discussing politics and the women gossipping in groups.

Parents with satisfied smiles,
Friends tease the new 'to-be' couple,
That there is no escape now,
I hear a shout saying, "Hurry up!"
'Cos someone's got to catch the train,

Bangles clanking, anklet bells ringing,
Sarees and vezhties rustling,
The pandhal is set for lunch....

And goes the imagination, as I hear a melange of such noises in the background, when people speak louder into the phone and tell me how much I am being missed.

I miss the noise,
The beautiful noise called "Family".

My panacea to cheeze craving

Ah! I had this yum Beichester cheeze this morning and the taste jus wont go off the tip of my tounge. Funny thing makes me feel like constantly munching on something and to top it, cramming for my assignment is jus the fuel to the craving. A friend of mine, once told me that to deal with cravings distract myself, probably with exercise. I did my share in the morning before meditation so I was too lazy to touch my feet again. My bed blog saved my day! Doing my bed took my mind off the cheeze. The thing is so evil that am giving the rest to Swetha jus so that it doesn't tempt me again.

A life of its own

Sometimes I wonder what my quilt, pillow and cushion do when am not around. I imagined it to be something like this:

My little brown cushion wraps the quilt around, cosily tucking itself in. As it rests its back on the pillow it begins to write the day's entry into its personal diary. The entry for the day goes like, "I am tossed, turned, straightened, pulled, thrown around, get in between pillow fights, stomped, squeezed, but at the end of the day, every night, I land in the warm hands of a lonely girl. As she hugs me tight and misses her dad, I comfort her and put her to sleep...Its worth all the love"

Made her day in bed ;)

There's no greater joy than gift making. Its my flatmate, Ralia's b'day today and I surprised her at 2.30 am. She was so over joyed since its's the first time she received a gift except from family. The green one has Ralia's name written in arabic and below was the gift box, the contents of which are a secret between her and me ;). To see the calligraphy go to my art's blog www.funkyindian.com

Easy does it

This was the easiest one of all, just got out of bed, straightened the quilt and flipped open a part of it. The days in Oxford are getting colder and its hardly bearable after living in a hot humid climate like Chennai. People think once you leave to a foreign country, habits and attitudes change drastically. I would say not! I hardly listen to English music any longer and cook only Indian food. The biggest difference I will take back with me for sure, will be my way of thinking. The education here makes one think and analyse a statement from every direction possible, whereas back home learning was a one way process - "I teach, you study". Its a drill, but worth the squeeze to make the clay in my head, melleable and reshape its structure.

spooky

I was so tired of the boring lighting in my room and took my study lamp to change the mood of the photo. Needed a mood change for myself too. Oh! but if i was to turn the camera to the opposite direction and shoot my desk, its jus horrendous! Piled with books, pages flipped open, used plates, bowls, empty mousse carton, maps, wires, phew! Everytime I make it neat and start working on an assignment for few days straight, its truns messy and the worst is that i can't clean the mess either. The next morning I've to start from the pages where I left the previous day, in the same sequence called 'mess'. Hmm.. I still love the messy self I guess.

Supper with the girls!

Oh Michelle's stew was so yum, its like the best food anyone's cooked for me after I've come to England. Horribly good as I can get in cooking, I'm hardly satisfied if someone else's made food. I enjoy it for the sake that I am not with the apron, there is more than one person at the meal and the fact that they have taken the effort. But for once I relished what I did not make! Wrapping up the meal with Felicia's chocolate mousse was the tops!

Good morning!

Phew! I cant believe I finally managed to drag myself out of bed by 6.40 this morning to study. Did a bit of meditation and some course work. Off to the library now...am I turning into a nerd? Or just plain survival, to keep inline with the rest?

tough days are here

Well, not the recession. Thats hardly made an effect on me yet, thanks to being a student. Nonetheless, being an International student is no easy ride especially if you are from a country where English is not your first language nor is the education system a demanding one. Oh! how many negations already! With the day being a complete bummer, an unmade bed was the last thing I wanted to do. But then, this blog - a committment I made to myself and decided to keep even if there is a hailstorm in my room. There is no drain in the creative spirit though my academic spirits are so low. That 5 min break to make small, insignificant changes make a significant difference to the environment and make me feel alive again

A bright sunny day

The sun streamed through the window and hit my face, screaming at me to wake up! I love my handsthat are so dexterous in their work. As much as I know my brain co-ordinates the movments and originates the imagination to create something, I still can't imagine how it would come alive without the tools called fingers.

As a guest

I had a hectic day today with classes, library and meetings. So my bed is in a messy state and I have zero energy to do it up. Its jus inving me to sleep now. Well I had been to London few weeks back and stayed with relatives. Aunty has some nice Indian zari throw and pillows. Could not help myself and had to work it out different. To compensate I dug this pic out of my collection. Hope to get up fresh in the morning for a better start.

A late night = A late morning

No matter how much I try I can't get up early and study, prefer to listen to some soft music and read late into the night. Thats caused horrid sleep timings where I often find myself getting up by 11 in the morning, luckily I would not have a class that morning. Not to mention the occasional hunger pangs making me indulge in a midnight snack!

For a cosy chat

Living out of a room with a common kitchen, does not give enough room for friends to drop in and get comfortable. So I transformed the bed into a diwan giving a cosy living room environment. I think I'll get more cusions and throw it all over sometime. Need to save up few pounds for that now!

Weekend's here or so I thought

Oh my cam got stuck with Ralia. So I missed yesterday's blog. Well the weekend's asusual turning to be a desk piled with books. Waiting for Christmas and see Oxford transform and mistletoe's decorating the doors. Atleast by then I would have my assignments turned in and will be a lot more free to explore this ancient town.

Too good to sleep in!

Michelle came early and we got around meditating today. A wonderful way to start, followed by crunchy dosas for breakfast. Slept late last night, so I made my bed first thing, so that I wont go back to sleep. Well I ended up sneaking into Ralia's room and crouched on her duvet for a nap. Busy day today!

I love making my bed in the morning

Back in India my mom was always behind my back to make my bed in the morning. I used to run away and leave it for the servants to pick up the sheets. Now am on my own, in my little dorm far from home, studying in England . My bro got me this huge quilt and showed me how to make my bed. Now I love making my bed every morning in a complete new style. This is what I did this morning!
